Demand Response Solutions

Rodan focuses on load management for the commercial, industrial, agricultural and institutional (municipalities, universities, schools and hospital) sectors.  As one of Ontario’s first load curtailment providers, Rodan has earned the confidence of some of Ontario’s largest energy users in each of these key sectors and has demonstrated its ability to secure participants that will deliver reliable and verifiable demand reduction.

Rodan has been contracted by the Ontario Power Authority to engage energy consumers to participate in reliability demand response activities in the Region of York (York Demand Response Program) Rodan’s demand response programs focus on the following areas:

Solutions for large energy users

As a load curtailment aggregator, Rodan identifies demand response opportunities for commercial, industrial and institutional energy consumers.  Rodan bids and manages these loads into the program(s) that best suit the curtailment capabilities and maximizes DR revenue for each customer.  Some of these programs include:

  • York Demand Response
  • Emergency Load Response Program - IESO
  • OPA 250 MW Demand Response
  • Various LDC programs
  • Operating Reserve – IESO
  • Economic Demand Response

Solutions for power generators

Rodan aggregates on-site generation of its commercial, industrial, agricultural and institutional customers and offers this supply into both the real-time and operating reserve markets or as behind the meter generation for load displacement.  We provide related engineering assessments, feasibility studies, bidding strategies and settlement services.  Our programs enable on-site generation facilities to become a revenue stream, not an operating expense.

Rodan will maximize the energy potential of the generators by:

  • exercising standby generators to maximize revenue or minimize electricity;
  • peak-shaving because the cost of power is higher than the cost to generate; or
  • putting power onto the grid through net metering to off-set the cost of peak periods.

Rodan prepares cost-benefit analysis and a business case that examines the costs and revenue opportunities of participating in existing programs such as:

  • The electricity Operating Reserve (“OR”) Market administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator (“IESO”) in Ontario.
  • Emergency Load Response Program – IESO
  • York Demand Response
  • OPA 250 MW Demand Response
  • Various LDC programs
  • Economic Demand Response (peak shaving)
