Making the Connection
Trust Rodan to provide the expertise you need to avoid unexpected delays and costs associated with transmission or distribution connection.
Rodan Energy has been involved with the most complex,
greenfield,
generation projects. These include Grid Connected Generators, Large & Small Embedded Generators and connections under the OPA’s Standard Offer Program. Our Generation Team has in-depth knowledge and industry experience, which are reflected in both the breadth and quality of the services we provide.
Our suite of services include:
Initial Consultation with Generators
We provide prospective generators with engineering, regulatory and administrative advice and direction. This includes meeting with the generation proponent and the local distribution company (LDC) to review and discuss the generator plans, providing preliminary information on connection options and explaining the connection process. It is at this stage that we obtain basic information to gain an understanding of the generator’s project and how it may affect the distribution system and connected customers. The aim is to identify issues, impacts and concerns and to steer the generator in the proper direction before proceeding to the next phase in the process.
Generation Connection Applications & Pre-Feasibility Studies
We assist the generator in completing the connection applications required to initiate and expedite the connection assessment and approval process.
Connection Impact Assessment
We prepare a Connection Impact Assessment (CIA) for the generator to determine the feasibility of connecting the generation facility to the distribution system. The CIA identifies and confirms the impact of the distributed generation on distribution system short circuit levels, load flows, current loading, voltage levels and voltage flicker under a variety of distribution system and distributed generation conditions to ensure there are no adverse effects.
Engineering & Project Design
We provide engineering services related to design changes required on the distribution system and network facilities to allow for the generator connection. This may include modifications to switchyards, protection, telemetry, conductors and metering.
Project Construction
Project management, material and construction services to facilitate the connection of the generator to the distribution system.
Commissioning & Field Support
Our engineers, protection and control, and metering specialists can assist with a wide variety of inspections, testing and commissioning of transmission, distribution and generation stations.
Regulatory Services
We assist generators through the interconnection process with the grid operator and other regulatory agencies. Our experienced personnel work with generators through approvals process by simplifying agreements where possible and ensuring timely completion in processing approvals.
Market Entry & Facility Registration
We manage the preparation and flow of documentation to ensure that all regulatory, technical and administrative obligations to participate in the administered markets are identified and met.
Generator Connection Guide for Utilities
Our Generator Connection guide highlights the regulatory, technical and administrative requirements for a generator to connect to a distribution system. We can customize the Guides to reflect the unique requirements of a utility’s distribution system. |
